In yoga they talk a lot about about grounding, using the energy to push us up.

I created this work inside a contemplation of my own polarities. The desire to fly and dream that is counter-balanced by a fundamental need to root and earth. The risk of adventure and novelty versus the safety of the familiar.

This shifting dance of opposites that pulses through each of us as we balance the weight of obligation with the fulfilment of our life's purpose. And the paradoxical discovery that even those things that were once joyful can over time gather the dusty and gravity of duty until we continue to create them newly.

Madhu calls this painting "Tiger Lilly" because of the rich colors and dynamic patterns. If you sit with her a while she will come to life: the patterns running up and down, creating energetic lines that pass through the stillness of her hands.
